"I need to get off the couch. I just turned 56 and realized I do not want anybody taking care of me as I age. Would like to live until I die - not exist until I die. Time to get with it and get healthy."

"I suffer from osteoarthritis. I am slowly losing movement in my joints and I am on medication to control pain. I find when I do not exercise I stiffen up. Exercise helps me keep my weight in check, which in turn is better for my joints; less weight, less stress on my joints. I also find I am happier and have more energy. With arthritis - move the joints or lose the mobility." "Being active with me has many benefits, for example: "In 2003, a few months after I got married, I was diagnosed with a degenerative neurological disorder. They started teaching occupational therapy to live in my "new" body, and flyers of all the assistive service I was going to need. "**CHEESY ALERT** "
"I move because it feels good. I cannot imagine not doing some kind of activity everyday. My big love is yoga. The passion I feel for yoga comes from being able to get to my center. After I practice yoga, everything seems so much easier. Yoga allows me to calm my active mind. Getting on my mat everyday is not an option. It is my lifestyle. I love to move and yoga is my way of moving." "I move so I can make the best of the rest of my life. Both my passion and my goals require that I be fit and healthy. Whether it is to climb to the top of a mountain or to one day have children, my body is the only way I have to get there. I move to live every moment to the fullest." "I move because I have a family history of heart disease and I know that exercise will help me age well. I am specifically inspired by the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada's commercial - Make Health Last - what will your last ten years look like. "I move to feel more alive. I always feel better when I get up and do something physically active. Then afterwards, I feel invigorated and ready to tackle the tasks and stresses of the day (or the rest of day if I exercise after work). Physical activity also calms my mind and lowers my stress, so I handle upcoming stress better (less yelling at the kids, LOL)." |
